AAH Somalia is implementing the livelihoods/self-reliance Somaliland (Hargeisa & Berbera) based pilot project, initially targeting women refugees, asylum seekers and members of host community as per recommendations of the rapid assessment conducted by AAH-I and UNHCR in April/May 2013, and the participatory assessment report, October 2013. Somaliland currently hosts approximately 1,900 refugees and 7,400 asylum seekers, the majority of whom emanate from Ethiopia and Eritrea and some of whom have been in Hargeisa for as long as 20 years. There has been some hostility between refugees and host communities, resulting in increased insecurity, discrimination and harassment.
