Entooma Sidai project

The Enkima Cook-stove Project, implemented by AAH-I in partnership with Ecoact, distributed 24,676 improved cook-stoves across four constituencies in Narok County. By offering the stoves at a subsidized cost of Ksh 100, the project directly benefits over 146,000 individuals through reduced indoor air pollution and health improvements. It also achieves significant environmental impact by reducing 60,000 tCO₂ annually and slowing deforestation in the region.

Testimonies

Before the introduction of the Enkima cook-stove project, we used to deal with many cases of women trespassing into the conservancy daily to collect firewood. This was a serious concern as it disrupted our conservation efforts and sometimes led to conflicts between rangers and community members. Since the distribution of the improved cook-stoves, we have observed a significant decline in these cases. Women no longer need to travel long distances or encroach protected areas for firewood. The project has truly reduced pressure on our natural resources while promoting peaceful coexistence between the conservancy and the surrounding community.”

2. As both an ambassador and a stove user, I have experienced first-hand how life-changing the Enkima stove is. Previously, I used the three-stone fireplace, and cooking was always rushed because of the heavy smoke. My eyes would sting, and I could barely stay in the kitchen for long. Now, I spend more time cooking comfortably without smoke irritation. I’ve also seen how this project is empowering women in our village by saving them time they used to spend collecting firewood. This stove has truly brought dignity and relief to our daily lives.”
